On Sunday, May 27, I had a chance to go to the Indy 500 race. Now, I have never been a racing fan, but grandfather invited me. I never really understood why going around in circles for 500 laps was appealing! My grandfather is a huge Indy fan and has gone for years. He made the trip up here with several of his buddies and they were in a park just behind the track. They had 3 extra tickets, so the first person he called was me! I said I would love to go because I had never been and it is one of those events that you would like to say "I went" to!

So I made my way out to where grandpa was staying. I got to meet everyone, hang out for a little while, everyone picked their cars for the pool and then headed to our seats around 12:30pm or so.

When the cars started and came by us for the first time (while they were doing a few warm up laps) my mouth was on the floor and I was smiling at the same time! And after they dropped that green flag (which was done by Peyton Manning!) and the cars came around that turn 4 at full speed I really couldn't close my mouth and stop smiling! It was so much fun! You really couldn't count to 10 before the cars were back around the track.

After about 60 or so laps, I went down to get something to eat. While I was down there my dad called and said that on TV they said that rain was in sight of the track! So I went to go look for grandpa and the gang to see what they were going to do. We got drenched! I found grandpa and a few others and we headed back to the camp area. At least it wasn't a downpour, but we still got soaking wet from head to toe!

I had so much fun! I am glad I came! As I was leaving, I heard the cars going around again. They got the tracks dried up and resumed the race, but it only went on for another 20-30 min. before the rain came back and they called the race! I'll tell you this, even if I'm not living here next year, I would love to come back!!!
Having been taken to the Indy 500, by your Grandpa Gene beginning at the tender young age of 11 years, I can assure you that you would not have been in your seat for 500 laps. Anyone who knows ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING could tell you that that particular race is only 200 laps. I still do love you both sooo much!
